BICABinga Institute of Conservation Agriculture

Trained here. Employed here. Owning here.

RootWorks is the network of graduate-owned businesses. Each one trains the next person.

How the chain grows

  1. Train

Learners complete production-embedded training on real orders.

  2. Launch

Graduates get a RootWorks licence, a toolkit and twelve months of incubation and shared services.

  3. Pass it on

Within 18 months each enterprise trains, employs, apprentices or hosts at least one new BICA trainee.

  4. Give back

Each pays a 2 percent social royalty and can buy shares in the RootWorks co-operative.

  5. Multiply

Successful units open satellites in other towns, and the Export House sells into Zimbabwe and neighbouring markets.

If 60 of every 100 graduates start a business and each one trains one new person, growth is paid for by the graduates themselves.
